E-mail
is
cheap and efficient. It can reach every corner of the globe
in a fraction of a second. Internet pornographers and predators
have used it for years. Why have we not used it more for
the glory of God, like evangelism?
There are companies selling as many as 50
million addresses for a few hundred dollars.
If 1% of 1%
of 50 million want to study the Bible, those
are 50,000 willing souls. Why
hasn't anyone in our fellowship attempted this affordable
but potentially explosive medium? Here are several reasons:
Legal
issues of spamming.
Although it is not well-defined, obviously, no one is
willing to risk the embarrassment or possibility of
going to jail. Funny. Pornographers and established
companies have shamelessly promoted their causes. Philippine
Mission plans to send out attractively-designed introductory
Bible lessons to each of those 50 million e-mail addresses.
That process is not spamming, and will make the offer
more personal as well.
A
lot of initial work. Fortunately,
labor is cheap in the Philippines. For a very low cost,
we can send individual letters to 50 million people
in less than six months, working around the clock. We
can also network all over the world and farm out new
e-mail addresses to which we can send lessons. Our Cebu
office will do the sorting and coordinate with teachers
around the world.
Need
world-wide contacts.
We
at Philippine Mission have already started establishing
contacts among our missionaries throughout the world
so that follow-up work can be done with the prospects.
However, we need at least 5,000 teachers to communicate
directly with the students, even in the early stages
of their studies. We are coordinating with World Bible
School which currently has 300 teachers available. This
can easily multiply once we have a list of interested
students.
Need
equipment and expertise.
Fortunately, we already have a dozen computers in the
Philippines that can be used for this effort. We have
quality people who are working on web pages to make
our presentation of the gospel more appealing and attractive.
We hope to ship dozens more used computers later this
year, which could be used when we start sending our
mail-outs. We have our own technical support staff,
and should be able to set up launching offices all over
the country in a matter of days.
Need
passion and vision. This
can be a very complicated and difficult work. Putting
all of it together will take a lot of people committed
to world evangelism and who appreciate the value and
the use of the new technology. This drive will go hand-in-hand
with our web sites as well as the printing of paper
materials which can be distributed by postal mail or
in the streets and markets all over the world by our
network of friends.
If
you would like to participate in this endeavor, please let us
know. We need computer programmers, coordinators who will network,
administrative adviser, financial partners, resource directors,
legal adviser, prayer partners, writers, and of course 5000 Bible
teachers via e-mail.
